PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATION FOR APPRENTICES

Apprentices can secure professional registration with the Science Council, through a shortened application that recognises the knowledge, skills and behaviours demonstrated through completion of eligible science-based apprenticeships.

HOW IT WORKS

A clear pathway from apprenticeship to professional registration, aligned with Science Council guidance.

Support is available for apprentices, training providers and employers. Routes available to RSci and RSciTech. Details vary by apprenticeship standard and version.

Questions and answers

Ready to apply?

  • If you’ve completed one of the apprenticeships listed by the Science Council as aligning to the registers for RSciTech (Registered Science Technician) or RSci (Registered Scientist), you may be eligible for the shortened application route. See the full list on the Technical Education website.

  • Instead of the full application process, your apprenticeship certificate and the competence you’ve gained count towards many of the requirements. This means the process can be quicker and more straightforward.

  • Applicants who have completed an eligible apprenticeship within the last three years are eligible to apply via the shortened route.

  • Professional registration demonstrates your competence, aligns you with a professional body, gives you post‐nominals (e.g. RSciTech or RSci), access to networks and continuous professional development opportunities.

  • Yes, your application will need to be submitted via a professional body licensed by the Science Council to award RSci or RSciTech registration.
